When people think about York Excavating Company, they often think about the company’s long history of serving Central Pennsylvania. Since its founding in August 1947 by Joseph Albert Stewart Jr. and Paul Murphy, YEC has grown from humble beginnings into one of the region’s most respected site development contractors.
But beyond the company’s 79-year history is another milestone worth celebrating.
This year marks 15 years since York Excavating Company officially became York Excavating Company, LLC in 2011—a significant moment in the company’s evolution and a step that helped position YEC for continued growth, stability, and long-term success.
While the company’s roots remain firmly planted in the values established generations ago, the transition to an LLC represented a new chapter. It provided a framework for future growth while preserving the culture, work ethic, and commitment to excellence that had already defined the organization for decades.
Over the past 15 years, YEC has continued to expand its capabilities, invest in its people, strengthen its leadership team, modernize its equipment and technology, and take on increasingly complex projects throughout the region. Through it all, one thing has remained constant—the people behind the work.
The YECel spirit continues to drive the company forward. It’s found in the employees who show up every day ready to solve problems, support one another, and deliver quality work for customers and communities throughout Central Pennsylvania. It is the same spirit that has guided the company through every chapter of its history.
As we celebrate 15 years as York Excavating Company, LLC, we do so with gratitude for the generations of employees, customers, partners, and leaders who have helped shape this organization. Every project completed, every relationship built, and every challenge overcome has contributed to the company we are today.
And while this anniversary is an important milestone, the next chapter is already on the horizon.
In 2027, York Excavating Company will celebrate an incredible 80 years in business—a testament to the vision of those who came before us and the dedication of those carrying that legacy forward today.
